Another rough page.
Hey, all! It’s been a while since I’ve piped up with anything new. I feel like I’ve managed to get back in the groove of things, and successfully work Velocidad back into my schedule. It’s been nice to get back in, and even get ahead(…mostly ) Now that I’ve dived back in, I had to finish scripting the last Chapter of this 1st arc. I’ve had a solid outline, but it’s been time to flesh it out. Really excited about what’s coming down the pike(and kicking myself for making myself draw ALL the things!). As we head into the last stretch next chapter, I plan to start exploring print options. I’ve done small(very small) runs for local Cons, but I’d like to share Velocidad with folks far and wide. Still contemplating individual issues vs just doing a full trade.
First I’ll give a small heads up that there may be a skip week at the start of July. I’ll be heading back to see my family for the first time in several months(been working in a different state), so I’ll likely be focusing on time with them.
As the blog title reads, I’ve relaunched Velocidad on Tapastic. If you aren’t familiar, it’s a great place to discover and read webcomics, and they have a great app for reading on you’re mobile device too. I’ve started back from #1, and only changed things slightly by making all the gutters black. Actually very happy with how it makes things pop off the page. If you already read you webcomics there, or know any one that does feel free to recommend Velocidad!
Last thing that was a pleasant surprise. Even this many years in, I still check my hits on the page fairly regularly. I can sometimes see where people have followed a link from. Well I was fortunate enough to get on list of sci-fi webcomics from David Brin! It was brief mention, and there wasn’t the detail about Velocidad as some of the others, but I’ll take it. I’m amongst good company, and there’s some on there that I plan on checking out. Earth was one of my favorite books that I always thought was a pretty unique premise….also very prescient. Anyhow, it was a highlight for me, just to be mentioned, and thought I would share.
So…..where the he’ll have I been? Excellent question! Well I’ve had quite a lot to deal with over the last couple of months both personal and professional. We had a health scare with a family member so I spent quite a bit of time concentrating on family.
Professionally I had a hard deadline I needed to meet before I could head off for the holidays. And on top of that I accepted a new position which required relocation. Soon after the New Year I relocated from Washington to Tennessee! A big move, but I’m finally settling in and getting familiar with the area. I’ve already met a couple of local comic creators!
Anyhow, the page I’ve had 2/3 done for almost two months is finally done! I’m starting to get back into a productive mode, so I’m getting the ball rolling again. For a quick peek into my process here are some thumbnails for some upcoming pages, and the new page should be up this week!
For those that keep checking in, thanks so much! It’s been a crazy month, and leading into another one. It always is a little jab in the side when I see in my page stats that I am on the ‘irregular’ webcomic list for someone’s personal list. Sometimes maybe i just posted later in the week, but sometimes it’s definitely warranted when I’ve missed a week. Thanks for staying on me, unknown reader for keeping it real! It’s time to just suck it up, and admit I am officially on hiatus.
I’m heading back to CA for the holidays for the 1st time in a few years to see family and friends, and had to up the timetable due to a family member’s waning health. This of course makes all my other things due that much earlier, and I need to take care of my freelance obligations to keep the lights on. On TOP of that, I may be making a big move geographically due to an exciting new gig(still waiting) which will throw another curve ball.
All that said, instead of stressing that I’m running behind or trying to squeeze something in I’m going to take a break until the New Year…and maybe even get a few pages ahead! I’ll try and throw up some peeks on my Instagram or twitter if you already follow. I’m also really excited about the next year as I’m hoping to wrap up the 1st 5 issue arc. I I end up moving it will also open up some possibilities to try out some new Cons that I normally wouldn’t get a chance to attend or even show at!
I’ll keep you all updated. In the meantime, if you;re fairly new….well, there are 3 issues to catch up on! If you’ve been around, please feel free to share, and introduce Velocidad to new readers. I would love to share with as many folks as possible.
Everyone have a great holidays!!
Just wanted to keep folks updated so they don;t think I’m MIA. I actually have this week’s page done, but my tablet that I do all my work on was apparently not crazy about the last Window’s update. It’s perpetually hanging on the start up screen AND the screen is flashing on and off. Fun times as I’m not crazy about the idea of having to invest in a new tablet. Not the right time financially. AND I do quite a bit of my freelance work on it as well.
So! Hoping to iron things out ASAP, so I can actually get the new page up and get back to work! I’ll likely just update next week, Wednesday to give time to get things worked out. In the meantime here is a quick glimpse of a Work-In-Progress I posted on Instagram. Speaking of which of you’d like to see early glimpses of Velocidad or some of my other work, you can follow me on Instagram here- https://www.instagram.com/kasey.quevedo/
So I have the Jet City Comic Show in Tacoma, WA coming up next week, and I’m really excited to have finished Chapter 3 just in time. I’m even more excited to announce that I’ll have a small print run of # 3 available as well! If you are in the area, I will be in Artists Alley at table AA_052. Please stop by and say hello. I am only printing a handful just for the local cons that I go to so I will have #1-3.
In general I’m also excited about having the first three Chapters done. It was a rougher year for free time to put towards the webcomic. I got off to a slow start, and my freelance work tended to take priority over my personal project, but we’re getting back on track! Hang in there with me folks. Take a read through and let me know what you think! I’ve had the remainder of the storyline outlined for a while, and I’m knee deep in scripting #4, and it’s going to be a lot of fun to draw, so I’m hoping it will be just as fun to read.
